This picture of my sister is from so long ago at the beach in Morocco. Those days have long passed and I often feel nostalgic for my childhood summers. My mom and sister have both flown the coop, visiting everyone in Marrakech and leaving my brother and I alone this Christmas. I'll just have to make a meal using beef tenderloin, potatoes, and onions (pretty much the only main ingredients we have in the place unless I find a way to go to the grocery store)--we'll see how things go!

The Christmas season is upon us!

There's always something to do but even so it's nice to feel the weather changes and the cool breeze as I'm studying and preparing to graduate (which will happen at the end of this semester). With Fall here I'm enjoying pumpkin everything, heavy yarns, wool, rainy days and perfect booties (never above the ankle!). I'll be moving at the very beginning of November so I'm looking for some apartment inspiration!

There's not much to say at a time like this when folks decide they should part ways for a bit. It's not something I wanted necessarily but rather needed for the both of us to untwist our perspectives and maybe see things from the other's side. We'll soon see if absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder...
Besides watching nature documentaries and countless episodes of Trailer Park Boys and having strange dreams of distant burning buildings and beautiful but ominous singing, I have been looking for little creatures to crochet, thinking of doodles to doodle, and devising changes to make as moving day looms like a dark cloud just on the horizon. By then perhaps things will have sorted themselves out and I'll be able to enjoy the fall.

Thinking about going ombre, wishing for warmer Spring weather and laying in the park and maybe still trips out to Huntington with its sweet, fresh air. Perhaps this Spring I'll find someone new to blush about, or maybe someone old who became new again, and Spring will turn to Summer and I'll breathe in the scent of honeysuckle and watch the fireflies flicker in the dusky twilight. Before I can do anything I mustmustmust finish this semester strongly, go to my senior graduation meetings and advisement, and do all that I can do in order to finally graduate from college!
I've been eating so many sweet things lately--strawberry cakes and pumpkin souffles and oatmeal cookies with cups of mint tea--instead of real food. I must admit, the idea of subsisting on sweets and cakes is so dreamy (in thought, not necessarily in practice).

My twenty-third birthday came and went in February and now I'm one year older and more lost than ever. I find myself gnawing at my fingernails again, leaving them ragged and nervous and I long for Spring and its sweet fresh air and dewy, chill mornings. I've begun a new job as volunteer coordinator for Travelers Aid at JFK and I love it already.
It's time for change and new beginnings.

Last week I picked up this hardcover edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray. I'm hoping so hard for another snowstorm tonight so I can hide away and read. I'm making a picture book that I'm going to write, illustrate, and bind by hand for my good friend Waka in Japan. If it comes out well I'll make more! She sent me the cutest pop-up Christmas card and a build your own five color pen with all my favorite colors (especially brown black and blue black!) in 0.28mm. It writes so fine, it's perfect!
I like the quiet today.
